King's Pizza, Inc. was founded in 1978 by Thomas Griffin and his partner, Richard Dubro. Tom and Rick went to school together and frequently visited Rick's parents cabin up in Cedarville, Michigan. While on one of their many excursions up north, they frequented a little pizzeria called Kings where they had the most incredible tasting pizza. Both Tom and Rick were entrepreneurial types and saw an opportunity when it was presented. They learned the business and bought the recipe from the owners of that tiny little pizzeria, John and Lisa Wagner, and started King's Pizza Inc. in the Detroit area.

Their first store was located in St. Clair Shores, Mi in 1978 but had a kitchen fire in 1980 and had to relocate due to inadequate insurance coverage. In 1979, they purchased a building in Detroit at Seven Mile and Schoenherr and worked it very hard. They also opened another King's Pizza in Roseville. In 1984 Tom and Rick dissolved their partnership. Rick kept the Detroit location which he later sold. He now owns and operates a restaurant with a different name near Traverse City, Michigan.

Tom kept the Roseville location and later expanded that store and added two others. King's Pizza IV, is located in Clinton Township and is co-owned by Jonathan Roberts. Tom's latest addition is King's Pizza III, Inc. in Rochester Hills, Michigan. This store was opened in 1992. Scott Lewis shares ownership at that location. Both Jon and Scott are former managers of Griffin's Roseville location. King's Pizza, Inc. is independently owned and operated. It is not a national franchise... one of the few independents left!

Over the years, Tom has expanded and perfected his menu. His pizzas have received numerous awards and his customers keep coming back for more! King's Chicago Style pizza is a "must to try". With sales of over 1000 pies per week with a "pound of cheese" to boot. ..it is known as the flagship of pizzas! King's BBQ ribs melt in your mouth, are tender and meaty and smothered in a special BBQ sauce recipe that has no match! ! ! The Slab Deluxe comes with seasoned potatoes, cole slaw and hot, fresh dinner bread! Well worth a trip to King's. ..or have them delivered! Recently "King's Catering" was introduced as the newest division of King's Pizza, Inc. The marketing of this program is underway now. Check out the catering section of the web site for more details!
